DIKO not working in Windows Vista Home Premium
«

Hi,
New at this forum.
Tried the search but couldn't find the right answer.
Been using DIKO on my old computer (xp sp2) without any problems. Now i'm using my new laptop (windos vista home premium) and i don't seem to get DIKO working like it did before on my old computer.
I tried several versions (2.26, 2.35, 2.44) but nothings seems to work.
Now to the problem:
I get an error-message (MICROSOFT VISUAL C++ RUNTIME LIBRARY ERROR, This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way). This happens at the end of the process when DIKO is about to author the dvd. After clicking this message it says DIKOGiu.exe is not working and i have to shut DIKO down without any result (no vob-files).
(In dutch, sorry for this)

As you can see DIKO does almost the full process but stops at the end when it's authoring.
I hope somebody knows the answer to this. By the way it doesn't matter what version i use, it does the same every time.
I'm realising this might not be a problem with DIKO at all, but with Vista. But need help to solve this problem.
Hope to hear from you soon.

I've been running Diko just fine with Vista. Well... almost. I need to go back to 2.42 otherwise I get a "bad parameter -2" when encoding. It's kind of odd. I just uninstalled 2.45 so I'll try a fresh install and see what happens.
Argh.
17:52:38: .\encoders\QuEnc\QuEnc^n.exe -cores 4 -i "F:\dvd-temp\movie0.avs" -o "F:\dvd-temp\movie0.mpv" -b 4129 -maxbitrate 8000 -priority 5 -dc 8 -mpeg2mux noaudio -scene -extreme -maxbframes 2 -nointerlaced -aspectratio 16:9 --2 -auto -close
Why why why does that --2 keep popping in there?
----------------
Ok. So instead of installing to c:\program files\diko, which is a stupid protected vista directory, I tried f:\program files\diko and now things seem to be working smoothly.
Also, reinstalling into the existing c:\program files\diko folder, even after UNINSTALLING DIKO, seemed to have retained my settings. So why? Where is Diko storing what script I want to use? I didn't have a c:\program files\diko directory anymore and I don't see anything in my user\appdata folder.
Any ideas vm? I'm glad I found out how to get the latest diko working finally, however I'm wondering why it kept retaining my old settings when installing into the old directory AND why it kept retaining that corrupted --2 thing I had issues with.
I wonder if it's a Vista thing. Like, I need to use the Vista program installer/uninstaller instead of the one that Diko ships with. I honestly don't know. Maybe something in the registry? I just took a quick look and nothing really popped out at me.

Hi Scrotos,
This is really bizarre. The "--2" stuff often is related to buggy encoder templates that came with older DIKO versions (2.42?). Also DIKO doesn't keep any setting in registry (all settings are kept in DIKO.ini located in regular DIKO install folder... Unless of course Vista has messed with this). The file related to this parameter is "FreeEnc.ini" and it's normally kept in c:\program files\DIKO\Encoders . So I suggest you run a search for DIKO.INI and FreeEnc.ini (maybe Vista is keeping another copy somewhere and fooling DIKO somehow)

Have you tried Vista Compatibility Mode?
To configure compatibility mode for an app, locate the installation directory and right click the .exe, select "properties" from the drop-down menu.
If that doesn't work properly then try the "privilege level" bit from the Compatibility tab and check the option that says 'run this program as an admin'.
This helps when you try to use older applications which require administrator privileges to run properly. You need to be logged in with admin rights to get this option.
I had problems with mplex crashing at authoring, maybe set mplex.exe to run in compatibility mode also.
