No of passes

In AQE, whether using the GUI, or within DIKO, when I specify 3 passes, it seems to do 4 passes. i.e pass 1/4.
is this supposed to happen?

Using AQE-GUI, it is configurated to do 1 (QMatOp+VAF) pass + N VBR passes, being N chosen by user.

Using DIKO, the number of passes N will be 1 (QMatOp+VAF) pass + (N-1) VBR passes.

edit: AQE is 'smart' and only will use the N pass just in case be absolutely necessary (usually 2 passes is more than enough).
