Screen Tuning
«

Hi There,
This thread comes from a Danpos's idea. We are all struggling to optimize the visual quality of our encodes. Sometimes, we forgot one thing. The medium used to watch our movies.
One thing I learned after many years of screen tuning. The factory setting are ALMOST NEVER the best ones. Why?!
Because those settings are dependant on the source of your pictures and on the ambient lights for example. And I doubt that you have the exact same config than the one used in the factory!
So each time one component is changed in your system, you have to recalibrate your screen.
How?!
In fact, that's something rather easy and inexpensive for the basic tuning. Try to find an original THX certified DVD. You'll get one extra feature called THX Optimizer. This is a really good start. Just follow the instructions. In order to help in you the last steps, you should order a THX Pair of glasses (blue lenses). Order them
there
. They cost 1US$ + shipping...it worthes it!
Another way, is to get the
AVIA Guide to the home theater
. It's more complicated but much more precise. For those who want to fine tune their home cinema that's really the best product. You can also tune your audio at a really professional level!
I will give you my own recepee to tune my screens. That's what I used to tune my projector with my 120" screen.
First AVIA tuning - about 15-20 minutes when you are used to it.
Then THX Optimizer for the Color & Tint Setup. I found it easier with the THX Optimizer than with the AVIA for this setting..
Then enjoy.
A last advice...you may find the picture less bright than usual. Dont change anything you'll get used to it and you'll notice some details you never saw before!!!! The brightness kills the details but is more naturally attractive! That's why most TVs are set with a high brightness to attract people...even if the details are gone!!!
[EDIT] : A link to an interesting page about THX Optimizer :

I believe this is the same thing that can be found with Star Wars Movies and other THX movies this way you you don't have to buy if you don't need it,it also offers it for sound as well I have used it quite a bit
It can be found in the DVD sound options in the bottom right corner all you have to do is click on the THX icon.I posted a picture for you to see

Exactly...any THX certified movie has the THX Optimizer in its features. The only thing you have to buy in order to be really ready is the pair of blue glasses (THX Certified).
