Hi everyone, I've seen a lot of requests for more matrix support in Diko, here is a little utiliy I wrote (an offshoot of AutoQMatEnc GUI) which should help everyone. I creates Diko style matrix files (amoungst others Wink) that are saved into the Diko/Matrix folder - these will be automatically by Diko Grin

Changes:

Added bitrate calculator based on the one at www.vcdhelp.com/calc
15 Matrices are internal now, external matrices are still supported
Added Recommended Matrix and Bitrate Matrix wizard

Features

Ability to import and save matrix files.
Supported formats are cqm, qmatrix and xcm.
15 extra matrices included.
Ability to export matrix files. Supported formats formats are:
   - CCE Encoder Control List
   - CCE Trial Registry
   - Comma Seperated Value
   - Diko
   - EclManager
   - INI
   - Tmpgenc INI
   - Tmpgenc Project
Ability to edit matrix.
Recommend matrices based on bitrate

Matrices (Edited and rearranged at NathanX's suggestion Wink)

Internal:
BVCD Underground
CCE Standard
HVS Better
HVS Good
KVCD Notch
MPEG Standard
MVCD
QLB
TmpgEnc CG

External:
Angel Best Very Low
Angel SVCD 1CD
CCE Ultra Low Bitrate
CCE Very Low Bitrate
Didee 6of9
Didee 6of9 HVS

This is a .NET Framework 1.x application coded in VB.NET 2003, generally speaking almost anybody
running WinXP SP2 should be able to run this without downloading any ~20MB runtime files
Grin.
However here is a link to the run time files if required...

Please feel free to download and try it out.[/b]

Bug reports, comments, suggestions and criticisms are welcome. Grin
Enjoy, Psycho Reptile

Please note there is no guarantee that the recommended matrices are perfect for every situation.[/b]

Just played around with your tool, really absolutely nice work. Some people won't believe that the selection of the correct matrix can influence the encoding result a lot.

SInce there are a lot of different matrices delivered with your tool, I would say that a nearly NOOb has no clue, which matrix he/she needs for what purpose/bitrate. Maybe some grouping or something similar
can help here.

@ latsilva, thanks pal Wink.

@ NathanX, good idea, I could add "Suggested Bitrate", "Recommended Source" and "Description" information to the GUI Wink,
the only problem is gathering all of that information to put into the interface - fancy giving me a hand to track down some info Grin.

@ All, with NathanX's idea in mind, I would appreciate any help on the three sections (as above) for any of the matrices included with Diko Matrix Creator Wink

@PsychoReptile
Well, I would say that just some info about the suggested bitrate would be sufficent. For eg. the KVCd matrix speaks for itself, so it is for low and ultra low bitrate (< 1500 Kbit).

I have done a quick search, it is hard to find information about all of them, just a few are better documented. Maybe the list of matrices can be shortened, those ones we never heard of should be removed ;-)

@ NathanX, have a look at the included matrices (internal and external) and give me a list of your recommended ones to keep Wink. Also, which ones would you like to see built-in to the GUI and which ones left external?

@Psycho

Matrices to keep:
BVCD Underground
MPEG Standard
MVCD
QLB
KVCD Notch
Angel best very low
Angel SVCD 1 CD
CCE Very low bitrate
CCE ultra low bitrate
CCE Standard
HVS Better
HVS Good
Didee 6of9
Didee 6of9 HVS
TmpgEnc

Internal:
BVCD Underground
MPEG Standard
MVCD
QLB
KVCD Notch
CCE Standard
HVS Better
HVS Good
TmpgEnc

External:
Angel best very low
Angel SVCD 1 CD
CCE Very low bitrate
CCE ultra low bitrate
Didee 6of9
Didee 6of9 HVS

Just my 2 cents, especially because I do not know all the matrices. I tried to keep matrices for special purposes (1 CD BSVCD) and for encoders usable by DIko

@das Ich

I am not really a guru on matrices, but I will try to categorize them in meaning of bitrate, regardless of the target format (SVCD/DVD)

(ultra) low bitrates (1000-1500 Kbit ;-), I use Quenc for ultra low bitrates below 1100 Kbit)
BVCD Underground
MVCD
QLB (use that one only with Quenc)
KVCD Notch
Angel best very low
Angel SVCD 1 CD
CCE Very low bitrate
CCE Ultra low bitrate

"normal" bitrates (1500 - 2500 Kbit)
BVCD Underground
MPEG Standard
QLB
KVCD Notch
CCE Standard

"higher" bitrates (>2500 kbit)
MPEG Standard
HVS Better
HVS Good
Didee 6of9
Didee 6of9 HVS

The other ones I do not know or use and this categorisation is just my personal taste. For my encodes i just use BVCD, QLB and MPEG Standard depending on the target bitrate.

@NathanX

Thank you for your explanation! I think that cleared up a lot.

But let me ask you a silly question...  Grin

Which is the best way to find out the movies bitrate?
