As requested by many people, here are some guidelines for DVDRB+AQE (Multipass):

  • Encoder Priority : Doesn't matter...AQE already decreases its priority in order to be less hard on the on going processes
  • Multiple Encoder processes  : it must be unchecked AQE is already multithreaded by itself.
  • CCE Settings : Choose CCE SP
  • CCE Customized settings : Change the number of passes to 3 or 4 no more no less
  • OPV is not recommended for those who are looking for quality over speed and precision
  • Advanced Options :
  • No AVS Options is compulsory
  • No Matrix is to be set, you could but it's useless AQE will do everything for you
[li]CCEAQM=1 should be added to Rebuilder.ini, it will be taken into account only if you're using the pro version of DVDRB[/li]
[li]If your average bitrate is above 4000-4500kbps, you should use CCE or HC they are faster than AQE and AQE was made to give good results at low bitrates...It would be a waste of time to use it at high bitrates[/li] EDIT : No more true after 0.33.0.3
[/list]

One last thing...AQE is an encoder, it's piloted by DVDRB. See DVDRB as a very smart robot which will start different encodes and rebuild the DVD with those encodes...

I think it's a first good start for a guidelines....I'm open to answer other questions in this thread about the usage of DVDRB+AQE in Multipass. I will create some other threads for DVDRB+AQE (OPV) and DIKO+AQE.....

He is right, there is a way to allow the usage of QMatOp with DVDRB free. You have to run a PREPARE step, then edit the REBUILDER.ECL file and replace all the adjust_q_matrix=0 by adjust_q_matrix=1.....then press REBUILD.
But I would highly recommend to buy the DVDRB Pro, it's a fantastic program, it really worth it!!!

Also this might help some ppl.

I'm to release a new version soon because I noticed a slight loss of quality since I increased the default speed of QMatOp, since I'm always in favor of quality over time, I will decrease it...it will be slightly slower but it will be better.

@SAPSTAR, can I give a small suggestion on this.

Would it be possible to put a parameter (perhaps in the INI), so that the end user can choose between your encoders best speed and best Quality. lets say for eg 1......5 wherein 1 is highest Quality and 5 is Best Speed.

This way the users who prefer Speed to quality will set it to 5 and those who prefer quality will set it to 1.

Just a flexibility you can give to your endusers Wink

thanks,
It's already there but I increased the default value in a previous version, and for my taste it would be better to make it a little bit slower...

tc_ref_frm : QMatOp speed . Default value : 0 (slowest) bigger number means faster and less accurate.(2 gave me goods results (speed/quality))

This has to be done in the rebuilder.ecl after the "Prepare" phase of DVD-RB.

@SAPSTAR,

Can you also put your opinion/advise here on when to use/activate the QmatOp feature and how does it benefit. (for low bitrate/high bitrate Huh, Low quality/High quality Huh etc ).

QmatOp does increase the encoding time, so this would help.

If you are not aimed at encoding quickly, I would say always turn QMatOP on.
Now if you really wants to have a compromise between speed and quality, I would say that below 4000kbps (for a 720*480 res) you should turn it on and off above.....

[li]No Matrix is to be set, you could but it's useless AQE will do everything for you[/li]

Are you tryign to say, that even if I choose the Notch matrix for better compression, AutoQmatenc will disregard it and use its own matrix, if yes, whats the crux behind it.

I just say that it's not necessary to set a matrix...especially if QMatOp is on...if QMatOp is off and you set a matrix, it will be used.

He sapstar ,
First of all i want to thank you for this amazing encoder ! , I have still some problems with it , but the encodes who worked were truly amazing !

My problem :
I am using DVD rebuilder latest pro version 1.09.3
It encodes fine , till it arrives at Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 9 , it just stops and gives errors :

Error dvd rebuilder window
Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 9
   -- V01000900001010 no .M2V, retrying.
 - Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 9
   -- V01000900001010 no .M2V, retrying.
 - Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 9
- Failed to create M2V: V01000900001010
- The encoder doesn't appear functional.
- Aborting...

First of all 0.32 B
En then I tried to replace the current ( path > program files/autoqenc/) file
with other betas  , but that produced an window crash ( not the memory crash)

@HOND : Rather simple ....you have to install the DLLs coming with the 0.33.0.3 version. beta version are "incremental". It is assumed that you installed a reg version and then all the beta versions. So in your case, you just have to download the 0.33.0.3. Uncompress it in your AQE dir, then uncompress 0.33.0.5.

First check, that the AVS is playable....I mean are you able to play the AVS in any media player. If not, check your prepare phase or DVDRB installation. If yes, I guess it's an avisynth pb.

THere is something strange about the specific avs..  It is 0kb, the rest is 1kb...
I will redo the prepare fase , let's see if the avs remains 0kb...

I will let you know if the filesize remains 0kb..
