Hmmm frankly I never tried higher than 15, but I know that 18 is a supported value for the DVD specs...so yo can give a try and let me know ! Wink In fact, I didn't code a limit so.....

12 is best gop for any DVD, if you have enough bitrate.

DVD compliant is also:

15 for PAL.
18 for NTSC.

0.25b - 2005/07/07
- Improved the rate control.
- Replaced the turning cross by a percentage indicator
- Log file creation : <AVSFILE>.log
- The rate control automatically detects, if it has any chance to improve the movie in the next pass if not it skips it.

The rate control is better , it may correct many undersizing issues..some may still be there. I implemented a logfile generation in order to help me in the debugging. Thanks to Carpo for this idea....
BEWARE : I recreated the Setup Package this morning (9:00 AM EST), I discovered that the 0.24b version was still in there....

The latest version was really a bad one...I discovered an other mistake in the rate control, expect bad sizing on the rates > 2500-3000...I will release a new version very soon.

Thanks for the info on the rate control SAPSTAR, im sorry that it doesn't currently work correctly.

I think I will wait for the next release when you can fix this problem as I really would love to test the rate control on this encoder.

I use DVD-RB Pro and I would love to test your encoder with this, is your encoder just like a simple replacement for CCE?

Also how does it work Q Factor of  VBR?

@SAPSTAR
I did read in another forum something that make me think.
If well is true that AQE uses better matrix related with each gop, I think this matrix is selected related to motion, but it doesn't take in account the notch needed for compressibility.
In other words, you can obtain a hq stream but bigger that another obtainded with, for example BVCD matrix, and I think (I don't tested it) that quality difference can't be so big.

What do you think about it?

Yes the compressibility is taken into account, I'm processing the matrix depending on the bitrate......
For the intra part, I-Picture are used, for the Inter-part some delta pictures are used, as the inter matrix is mainly used to encode B and P pictures which are composed of motion vectors + difference between prediction and real pic.
