@All

Hi, everyone! Abond at kvcd.net announces there a new free MPEG2 encoder. It's very cool we have as much as options (free) possible for to do our encodings ... Cool

Official announcement: Doom9 thread

EDIT: Hi Danilo, I had to edit your link to the homepage and to the dowload link to this encoder as it is out of date now so I updated it for you. Grin

As I did read in KVCD.net, it can have problems with control rate as all libavcodec based encoders.
(I only know NuEnc and FreeEnc that fixed that.)

@Pro

I did read the Doom9 thread and the author don't say that he did use a FULLY libavcodec in your code, but something of one. He also did say that ratecontrol is working like a charm and he didn't use the modified libavcodec by Peter Cheat ... The encoder works with a encoder list file (.ecl file) and someone can to do such files using eclCCE.exe by Robot (Doom9 member).

Like I did post above, the Doom9 thread talks about it in more detailed way.

Hi there !

Happy to be registered here !!!

Just a suggestion, you should edit the link to the direct download...it's pointing to the previous release  Grin

danpos...about the bug you reported on Doom9....I'll check that !

[EDIT] About the usage of the libavcodec, I'm using it yes...but only functions of it...I tweaked much the rate control by using the rc_eq (rate control equation) and the rc_override (rate control over ride), I chose to go that way to be able to reuse the next libavcodec without having to rewrite code each time....

@SAPSTAR

Welcome to the forum and thank you for taking the time to register on our forum.

I was very excited to hear about your encoder when danpos posted about it as soon as I get some time I will do some tests, I have heard some good things about your encoder already.

I respect the work that you have done here and thank you for givng us an extra freeware Mpeg2 encoder.

Good luck with this project of yours, I hope it goes from strength to strength. Smiley

Could this new encoder be implemented into DIKO as an alternative to CCE seeing as it is freeware.

That is if you had no objections to that Jérôme, it could be a seperate download for DIKO as an option to use DIKO with completely free encoders namely Free3nc and AutoQMatEnc.

I think this is a great seeing as this encoder can be used in DVD-RB also.

Does it allow custom matrices?

What do you think guys?

@SAPSTAR

I'm currently doing a encoding using DVD source, where I enabled the QMatOp built-in technology tweaking the ECL file. I'll report the results as soon as the encoding finish.

I'd want to request you to talk a little bit about the QMatOp technology that you've used in your encoder.

Keep up the good work, buddy!

Cheers,

2 - Min Bitrate: 300 kbits/s

3 - Max Bitrate: 8000 kbits/s

4 - Average Bitrate: 2876 kbits/s (Calculated through  Calcumatic by Kwag at kvcd.net)

5 - Mode: 2 passes VBR

Q-Mats gererated by AQE (in "0 - zero - pass", through DCTune by NASA):

Code:
8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8

Expected video filesize: 3538348 KB (estimated by Calcumatic)

Video filesize generated by AQE in 2 passes VBR    : 3846201 KB

Script .avs used:

Code:
MPEG2Source("D:\Compilation\SCRIPTS\harrypotter_chamberofsecrets.d2v",cpu=4,idct=6)

This encoder uses in special way best matrix related with stream needs (I think it is variable across a same stream also).
See the matrix posted by Danpos.

@Zyphon

Prodater was perfect in your statement. To enabling the QMatOp feature in ECL file the app will to do a "0 - zero - pass", where the DCTune that follows the app to do an analyze in each GOP at videostream, adjusting the quantization matrix for better compression and quality, constrained to min bitrate, max bitrate and actual bitrate. I guess that final "qmat" is an "average of all qmat", but I'm unsure ...

More informations about DCTune: http://vision.arc.nasa.gov/dctune/

For to use custom "constant qmat" is enough to set it up in ECL file "by hand" or then use the latsilva's app (ECLCreate, which let you to create ECL files for CCE or AQE).

latsilva's tool: http://www32.websamba.com/kanivete/
